About Liz
Liz was raised in Burlington, Ontario, and her partner Jim was born and raised in Haliburton County, which was the foundation of her relationship with the area.
When Jim had an offer to manage a construction company in Norman Wells in the NWT, the couple set off on an adventure to the North where they made their home for many years.
It was during this time that Liz’s interest in municipal management and politics began. She served as Assistant Town Manager, Lands Clerk and Development Officer for the Town of Norman Wells for 12 years, followed by a seat on Town Council for the next 12 years.

Life in Haliburton
Jim and Liz returned home to their roots in 2004, and Liz’s municipal experience landed her a reporting position with Moose FM.
Liz then moved to print journalism with the County Voice as a municipal affairs reporter. This role allowed her to see local politics from the outside, where she applied her internal political experience providing critical analyses of public-facing issues.

Sadly, Liz was widowed in 2017 when Jim lost his battle with cancer.
Politics Came Calling
Liz’s municipal reporting role reignited her desire to serve the community. In 2010 she was elected to the position of Councillor for Ward 2 (Stanhope). She was chosen by her Council colleagues, uncontested, to be the Deputy Mayor which placed her at the County table.
Success, respect and a reputation as a fair thinker found Liz acclaimed to her role as Councillor and Deputy Mayor in 2014 and 2018; and her ‘steady at the helm’ reputation led to being elected as Warden by her County Council peers for four years in a row, a County record.
Liz has been a reliable representative to both Algonquin Highlands, and all of Haliburton County and that commitment will continue when she’s Mayor.
